Lyrics

Treasured Memories

1. She was always the last to go to bed
but in the morning she was the first to rise.
And the love she had for her family was a love she would not compromise.
She worked long and hard enough,
and even though the times were tough she kept trying.
But so many times she did not know
in the midnight hour I could hear her crying.

2. I recall the year so very well when Daddy died and left us all alone.
Mama knew she had to fill his shoes
and she tried so hard to make our house a home.
I guess I didn’t understand that living life without her man was lonely.
But I remember the day he passed away,
she swore he would be her one and only.

3. When it seemed that we were down on luck,
she would tell us we could hold on to our dreams.
But with five kids in a two-room house
it was hard to see that dreams mean anything.
But the one thing that we always knew,
and what would make those dreams come true was right there…
in a place of sweet togetherness,
we lived a life of love that we shared.

Chorus:
How I love those treasured memories. They are part of who I am.
Through the years they seem to take me, back to those moments once again.
And the things that I remember, are reflections of my soul.
Oh how I love those treasured memories, of a time so long ago.

Tag:
And the things that I remember, are reflections of my soul.
Oh how I love those treasured memories, of a time so long ago.
